Pic of the Land

Here is a pic of the land we’re going to be building on next year. I’ll try to take a better one sometime so you can get a sense of the layout, etc. It’s a pie-shaped lot on a cul-de-sac, about 0.18 acre.

looks like a nice lot, the treed back is very cozy. Just wondering if you are planning to use “natural” plants in the landscape.

A good friend of mine built his home in a somewhat naturally arid locale. His new neighbours even offered to put in a lawn for him no charge. he held fast (ok parlty cus he is too lazy to mow…but he didn’t cave) and to this day has no lawn. Only native plants and scrub. It looks great!

Last fall he won an award for the most ecological yard in the town he lives in.

The little bit of water he does use he collects in huge “totes” about 2500 litres each. Best part is no charge to him and he has the water system automated.

Good luck with your home, I cannot wait to see how it looks when done

Not sure about natives, I’ll probably use a fair am’t, but for sure I’m planning to xeriscape as much as possible. That is cool about the totes…I’m not sure how much rainwater harvesting I’ll do since we technically live in a desert. I like the idea, though, definitely, and our builder’s brother-in-law has one set up (in this area) that I want to check out. I detest lawn, but the rest of my family doesn’t, so we’re thinking some in the back for the kids to run around on and we like to play bocce and croquet and stuff, so we’ll have a bit, I’m sure.

I’m thinking of doing an all-white garden as far as flowers, so I’m brainstorming about that. Might start another blog about it or maybe I’ll just add onto this one. Hmmm.
